The
Garden of Eve
hosted a wine and cheese fundraiser for BEADS on October 30, 2004. We were very
successful in our efforts; we raised $2,500 for Beads and sponsored eight
girls! We also received donations in the amount of $1,600 for the Garden of
Eve.
Approximately 50 people attended
the fundraiser. Everyone enjoyed the food, wine and the company and
participated generously in our efforts. Debby Rooney, founder of Beads, gave a
presentation on the status of women in the community she works with, and the
problems of poverty, population growth and illiteracy. Debby brought with her a
variety of jewelry, pocketbooks, boxes and key chains made by the Maasai women
in Kenya and Tanzania. Your contributions are directly helping Debby to sponsor
girls' education, build women's businesses and to provide targeted workshops on
topics such as AIDS Training, Female Circumcision and Environmental Awareness.
The
Garden of Eve
is sponsoring another fundraiser for BEADS in March, 2005 in North Jersey. Stay
tuned for details.
We thank all of the participants
who attended the October fundraiser. It was our first event and we are
energized by the success of the event. We appreciate your generous
contributions and look forward to seeing you again at our next event.
